Introducing the Shooting Academy Listowel Championship Series

Think you have what it takes to be the best?

The Shooting Academy Listowel Championship Series is our in-house target shooting competition, where the participant shoots their targets at their own pace on their own time, and submits the results to us for scoring on a running leaderboard. This series will run from today (September 7) until Saturday, December 16.

Rules

The shooter will purchase an entry package of 10 targets for their division (see below), each of them to be numbered and signed, and will fill out an entry slip.

The shooter will then take 10 shots at each of his targets. This is 10 total shots, per target. Targets with more than 10 hits will be disqualified, and misses must be counted as zero points.

All firing is to be done unsupported, from standing. Firing from the bench using bags, bipods, clamps or other supporting devices is not allowed.

The best of those 10 targets will serve as that shooter’s score for the leaderboard in that division. Each target has a max score of 100 points, and 10-point center-bullseye hits will be additionally noted. For example, a shooter’s score might read 75/100, 2X. The leaderboard will be determined by total points, but in the event of a tie for top total score, the winner will be determined by number of X hits.

Centerfire pistol target on the left; all rimfire divisions use the target on the right.

All targets are shot at 25 yards - the max distance for our range. Targets shot at closer distances are disqualified.

There are four divisions, each scored separately with its own leaderboard:

  • Rimfire Pistol

  • Centerfire Pistol

  • Rimfire Rifle - Open Sights

  • Rimfire Rifle - Optics

Shooters may enter as many divisions as they wish, but must use the required equipment for that division.

Shooters may enter each division as many times as they wish, but only their best score of all targets will be counted. Each entry is 10 attempts to achieve a score as close to 100 as you can manage. Conversely, a shooter achieving a perfect 100 score without using all 10 targets does not need to use up the remaining targets, unless he wishes to try to score more X hits or improve his grouping, etc.

For the sake of this competition, “Optics” refers to any rifle sighting device other than standard factory open or iron sights. This includes, but is not limited to, scopes, red dots, aftermarket specialty sights, lasers, or any other apparatus or attachment that is not used for sighting a rifle. Please ask the staff if you are unsure about which division would be appropriate for your rifle.

Pistols may use optics or open sights as desired.

We do not have centerfire rifle or pistol calibre carbine divisions at this time. These are not to be used in this series.

For the sake of fairness, shooters will indicate on their entry form which firearm they intend to use for their 10-target set. That set must be shot with that firearm. If the shooter wishes to try again with a different gun, he must purchase another entry package.

Shooting sessions can take place at any time during or outside of staffed hours, but must be done here at our range, at the max distance. Shooters have until the end of the season to shoot all 10 targets, as their schedule allows. There is no time limit for the 10 shots per target.

To submit your targets for scoring, return them signed and numbered (#/10) to staff. To submit your targets outside of staffed hours, you can slide them through the bars on the door to the store, and staff will retrieve them at the start of the next business day. Please do not leave your targets on the front counter, as they could go missing.

Division Leaderboards will be posted in the lobby by the front counter. These leaderboards will be updated on a daily basis as new scores are submitted.

The final day of the series is December 16. All scores will be tallied, and the top scorers of each leaderboard will be awarded a Championship prize (to be determined at a later date).

Requirements

This series is open to anyone with a valid firearms license and the proper equipment for their division. There are no additional training requirements.

This series is open to any qualified shooter wishing to participate. Non-members must pay for a $25 day pass in addition to the entry package.

You will need 100 rounds of ammunition per entry, though a perfect score may be achieved with fewer rounds.
