January Could Be Better

First off: Happy New Year.

We’re off to a less-than-optimal start for 2022. Three days in, we got two pieces of pretty bad news.

First, the government announced a new Omicron lockdown, scheduled to last until “at least” January 26. This means the range will be closed until the lockdown is lifted, and all CFSC training courses in January are postponed. We have dates scheduled for February and March, but we will not be booking anyone until we have a confirmed reopening date and the OK from FSESO. Those courses may be rescheduled also if the lockdown runs longer than “at least.”

We were told in the fall that there would be no more lockdowns. They hurt our business. We do not support this plan of action, and we share everyone’s frustration. Unfortunately, our hands are tied. Non-compliance is not a consideration for businesses that operate under heavy governmental regulation.

Second, we had a burst pipe in our ventilation room above the shooting bays, which caused a major water leak on the range below.

This happened after-hours on a Monday night, so we apologize to anyone who made the trip out only to find the doors locked and a “range closed” sign on the door. We posted an update on Facebook, but not everyone uses that service.

A special Thank You to Adam for contacting us as soon as he saw this. The timely discovery allowed a quick response and helped to minimize the damage.

The flooding DID cause damage, however, to all the drywall and insulation in the walls and ceiling, and requires the room to be stripped and remodeled. Even without the unwelcome intervention of our provincial government, we would have to close the range down to make these repairs. We will be taking the opportunity to upgrade the walls to something with better sound-dampening properties and to tweak the electricals. The water was pouring down through the light fixtures, so… not fantastic.

Anyway - silver lining - the shutdown gives us time to properly fix this problem without any additional downtime, and the range will be even better once it’s back in operation again.

Keep an eye on our social media and on the calendar for updates. Sorry about the downtime, hopefully we see you all again soon.
